Lucky us; our kid's birthdays are about a month apart, despite the six year difference. So to make things easier(on us and our families) we decided to combine them and have one big party. To make sure that each of my children felt "special" (sounds lame but you know what I mean) I made them each their own six inch cake. My daughter's cake is Winnie the Pooh(her father's doing...).
I intend to just place this in front of her while she sits in her high chair and let her have at it. I did the same thing for my son on his first birthday; it was hysterical! He sneezed chocolate for three days! I think I'll strip her first though, those frosting's will stain something awful...
As for my son's cake, I had a few issues. Red is such a hard color to get. I mean real red, a good solid true red. Not a pink or orangey-red, but hot rod red. I wouldn't call it a success, but he was pleased...
The red and yellow together reminds me of the oscar mayer wiener mobile(nice, huh? so much for hot rod red...). I thought about doing something black and white, like the checked flag. A: I'm not that talented, no basket weaving with frosting here. B: Who the hell wants to eat black frosting, eeewww. I'm curious to see if he'll just sit there with a fork, or ask me to cut him a slice. But then again, he could just follow his sister's lead and dig in with his hands... GAH!!
And, because there will be another twelve people there and two six inch cakes that have been mauled by birthday children won't cut it, I made a third cake. My sister frosted this one...
For us peons that aren't celebrating a birthday... Oh, I can't wait!
